Seminar in Elementary Music Education is an examination of curriculum materials, teaching methods, and methodological approaches appropriate to elementary grades. This course is designed as an inquiry-driven introductory exploration of music cultures that exist outside of the Western classical art music tradition. In this course, students explore ethnographic research and complete an participant-observation primary research project. There is a particular emphasis on the musical traditions of the Indigenous peoples of Canada; and the Caribbean. |
MUSC 4940
This capstone course is an inquiry-driven critical exploration of philosophical, historical, sociological, research, and practical issues in music education. Students examine the nature of music education as it relates to culture, meaning, identity, and community in formal and informal music teaching and learning contexts. All students complete a primary qualitative research project in this course that is approved by the Research Ethics Board. |
