​Pedagogy of the Arts (J/I & I/S)

EDUC 5326 (J/I)
This course is an introduction to the growth, development, and learning of children in an emphasis on instructional practices and curriculum planning for teaching music. The course also explores generalist music teacher identity, online/offline learning communities of practice, and vocal pedagogy. 

Drama Methodology

EDUC 5441 (P/J)
This course provides opportunities for teacher candidates to investigate methods of learning and inquiry through drama education, with a focus on drama as an instructional strategy and learning vehicle. The course emphasizes differentiated instructional practices, diversity in the dramatic arts, and curriculum planning
EDUC 5221 (J/I)
EDUC 5231 (I/S)
Pedagogy of the Arts is a large lecture course taught to all Junior/Intermediate (grades 4-8) and Intermediate/Senior (grades 7-12) teacher candidates in the Faculty of Education. This course examines how the arts contribute to schools and to society. Themes include supporting learning through the arts, what education can learn from aesthetic and artistic practices, decolonization of the arts, sociological and cultural contexts of the arts in education, flow, and creativity

Music Teachable

​The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and refine their knowledge of the principles, pedagogies, and materials associated with teaching school music at the intermediate and senior levels. Students will explore the role of music educators and the place of music in schools and community, as well as the learning processes experienced by students in intermediate/senior school music.
